Holy Orthodoxy and Abortion
Bishop Basil (Essey)

Each year in January the Orthodox Church in America commemorates the Sanctify of Life. This is done each year around the date of the infamous Supreme Court decision of January 22nd, 1973, Roe v. Wade which legalized abortion in America. Since that time the lives of some 60 million unborn children have been sacrificed on the altar of "a woman's right to choose". Each year in our nation more and more citizens are rising up against this barbarism, gathering throughout the country to peacefully protest, and many bishops and priests are speaking out against the abortion holocaust in their parishes, dioceses, and publicly. The sermon you are about to hear was delivered by His Grace, Basil, Bishop of the Diocese of Wichita and Mid-America of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese in North America. Bishop Basil serves as the Secretary of the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops in the United States. It is a stentorian call to the defense of unborn life, and a model homily for clergy desirous of preaching on the sanctity of life. Patristic Nectar Publications offers this homily with the blessing of its author.

Orthodox Unity: Overcoming the Curse of Jurisdictionalism
by Fr. Josiah Trenham
This lecture by Fr Josiah has been delivered in various venues throughout the country and an earlier version of the lecture was published in the St. Vladimir's Theological Quarterly (Vol. 50, No. 3, 2006). The lecture is a theological commentary on the un-canonical arrangement of the Orthodox Church. It is a honest and bold attempt to articulate the evils of jurisdictionalism, and a call to canonically normalize post-haste before further negative consequences afflict the life of the Church in America.

Islamic Sharia Law in America: An Orthodox Christian Perspective
Father Josiah Trenham

An Orthodox Christian perspective of Islamic Sharia law and the implications for America in the light of Islam’s stated interest in instituting their law in the West. A general survey of what Christian life is like under Islamic rule for the past 14 centuries and the current judicial and financial trends in the West today is provided. This lecture reflects upon the growing intersection between Islam and the West, with a special focus on the Islamic request of Western governments to be governed by Islamic Sharia law instead of Western law. What is Sharia law? Why are Muslims asking for it to be applied in the West, and how should Americans respond? Why are Muslims in the West forming a growing Islamic identity instead of assimilating to their new countries?  This lecture was given at the St. Barbara Orthodox Monastery in Santa Paula, Ca.
